Xefr's Adventures: Existential Crisis
« on: May 21, 2016, 08:43:04 pm »
In a system far, far away from Shyr, a small group of Ghashyr explorers under the leadership of Captain Erixen is searching for a mythic Dragon called Xefr after being given information regarding his whereabouts by a rather impolite Dragonlord named Dervis.
The search for this peculiar reptile is of utmost importance to the Ghashyr crew that hopes to return bringing proof to the Talmyr that Dragons still exist.

...As the small frigate arrives at Dentibus Hydri, a powerful force shakes it and draws it out of its course, the captain slams his hand in the podium "Maximum power to all engines! We will not let this rift take us in and away from our objective!" soon the frigate stabilizes and heads for the nearest life signals. All of the crew awaits in excitement what will appear as they grow nearer...

The Vortex was a large, sprawling mess of blue psionic energy, with yet more energy flowing in to join the mass. Its pull was violent, but weak, and the Ghashyr were easily able to stabilize themselves.
Spoiler: Dentibus Hydri (hover to show)

The nearest, and only, life signs were in a very large craft orbiting the vortex. The light of the vortex made the words across its side possible to read, "The Soul's Eclipse". It was easily ten times the size of the ship Captain Erixen had met Dervis upon, but it appeared dormant. The life signs were clearly active, but the weapons, shields, and even engines seemed to be offline. Its communications systems however were online, but no attempt has yet been made to hail the Ghashyr, or really any sort of reaction.

Spoiler: The Vessel (hover to show)

The Ghashyr freeze upon seeing the size of that ship  ..it was about as large as an Azgorlanor-class dreadnaught, perhaps even larger. The small war frigate seemed miniscule in comparisson. Soon though many officers started admiring the beautiful patterns of the void...
Captain Erixen having his eyes stuck on the alien vessels suddenly makes a hand signal to the communications officer to open a hailing frequency, he clears his cape a bit and re-adjusts his hat accordingly "Ehem, Greetings Lord Xefr! We are hoping we're not mistaken  ...I'm Captain Erixen, in service of her greatness the Talmyr and I wish to speak with you  ..we were told that we could find you here by your friend Lord Dervis."
Ysylsen starts nervously munching her claws, while all await a response  ...or at least any sign.

There is no clear response. The line has clearly been received, but the other side is silent. But then, the massive frontal hanger of Soul's Eclipse opens up, as if inviting the Ghashyr ship to come in. Besides that, the ship is still eerily quiet and inactive, though the life signs inside seem to be moving around a bit more.

Some weird thoughts, about the legend of the Ghost Ship that eats up spacers, cross Erixen's mind at this sight ...he seems rather frightened by the imposing silence.
He quickly turns to Ysylsen "You have command of the ship, I and paladin Myntorel will go in there alone  ..Azgor Tal protect us!" Ysylsen nods and the Captain along with the paladin dress up in full armour and enter a two-seater fighter. They slowly navigate the fighter within the seemingly empty behemoth and land on its hangar. Erixen jumps out of the cockpit and in a loud, worried voice he shouts "IS ANYONE HOME?"

The Hanger itself is mostly empty, though hundreds of inactive automated fighter-craft adorn the walls and hang on the ceiling. But in a sudden flash of blinding light, the Black Dragon appears in the center of the room.
Spoiler: Xefr Omegan (hover to show)

But then, another two flashes of light, and two more dragons stand on either side behind the first. These two however, are different. Their bodies are not black or gold, but a transparent blue, just like the color of the vortex. The left is covered in full medieval armor, with spikes all along it and a mace at the tail. The right one wears a set of GD-Champion Power Armor, but it lacks weapons. The corporeal Dragon looks down upon the armored Captain. His deep, yet somewhat depressed, voice booms within the minds of Ghashyr. "I am called Xefr, but I am no lord. Welcome aboard this vessel. Have you come to gaze upon the rift, young one?

The two Ghashyr cover their eyes to avoid the strong light, what appears before their eyes leaves them in a state of admiration and joy, especially Erixen who nearly drools. The captain shakes his head a bit after hearing the peculiar-sounding Dragon-voice and kneels before the majestic reptiles "Anyone old and wise as you is a Lord in our eyes." he then rises, smiles and half-jokingly continues "I've not come to gaze upon the rift, though I admit it is nice to look at, well, from up here at least! Anyway, I actually was seeking you..   ....I didn't expect you would be a black-scaled Royal Dragon, this changes a lot!"
Myntorel backs down a little, he seems to be intimidated by these creatures he only heard in stories  ..his eyes are hooked upon that one dragon on the left, as he seems to remind him of something  ...he gathers up some courage and speaks silently to Erixen: "Pardon me my lord, but that one looks like Saint Itz'Ian the Warrior!"
Erixen looks at him, evidently annoyed "Hush!"

Xefr just sighs, and the sadness in his eyes remains. "I have been called that before, once, in a far off place whose history has long been devoured by the destructive winds of time. If only I was truely royal, it would mean that I would have power, the ability create change... Alas, that is not me. But, you said you were seeking for me, why? What could this old dragon possibly do for you?"
The left dragon snorts, and a another voice booms out. This one, is far louder than the last, and has a hint of pride. "I am a Warrior yes, but I am no Saint! I am Xefr, guardian of this vessel and protector of its crew!" The right dragon sighs and rolls his eyes. A third voice, calm and sophisticated, speaks out. "Calm down, you oaf. He merely said there was a resemblance, no reason to get agitated. Now be quiet and let them speak." In response, the warrior dragon turns to snarl at the other, but quickly calms down and returns his attention to the main conversation.

Paladin Myntorel avoids eye contact with the warrior spirit and tries not to irritate him any more.
Meanwhile, Erixen's pulse starts beating faster from excitement as he hears to what this old Dragon says... In a far off place! Could that perhaps mean an actual connection to the Valxes? He comes closer to the great black drake and  continues talking in a rather joyful tone.. "You were called a 'royal' before you said? I'd like to hear more about this far off place, truly interesting! Anyhow, I seek you, great Xefr, for I'm an explorer and the realisation that Dragons exist must come along with proof  ...furthermore, I think you could also discuss regarding Ghashyr-Excave relations with our Talmyr - And may I add, I'd prefer a civilised Dragon like yourself, over someone like Lord Dervis - So, I ask of you to come with me in Shyr, as a guest!"
The captain awaits the dragons responses while smiling like a child about to be given a present and nervously playing with his hands.

Xefr sighs again, as if the mention of the so called far off place depressed him. He does again when Dervis's name is brought up. His voice remains saddened, "Don't blame Dervis for his attitude... After all, the one you should be blaming stands before you. If only I wasn't so much a fool... Regardless, I do not represent Excave, or really any of Iammelon. I am a wanderer, an explorer like you, but the knowledge I seek is something very specific. However, if you still wish to bring me before your Talmyr, as you called it, I suppose I could. This ship is fully operational, and I suppose some new knowledge wouldn't be too harmful... Though I'm sure I would be a disappointment. An old Dragon like me has no such worth, I don't deserve to be anybody's guest." The Dragon's head looks down a bit, contemplating the floor.
The two energy dragons remain quiet, though the warrior seems like he wants to say something is holding himself back.

Erixen is feeling really perplexed by the dragon's self-deprecating behaviour, he almost feels sad for him  ..almost, as he is too happy that Xefr accepted the invitation to think much of anything else. He comes closer to Xefr and opens his hands in a friendly gesture "Oh, great Xefr, I do not understand if you say these out of extreme politeness or other causes, but rest assured that you would not disappoint our Talmyr  ...She would be thrilled to meet an old wise dragon! ...and while most of us don't believe that the ancient dragons were divine, as no one is divine but Azgor Tal, you would be welcome in Shyr!"
Myntorel leans to Erixen "I don't know, we perhaps should be more careful" he then turns to the warrior-spirit "You say you are a warrior? Well, then, learn that us Ghashyr are great warriors and anyone who is not afraid to face death for honour would be welcome as well!"  ..The captain looks at his paladin in a disapproving way.

The Dragon raises his head to look at Erixen, seeming to study him. While the sadness remains in his eyes, Xefr doesn't sigh this time. His voice has a bit more confidence in it, "Do not worry yourself, I could not consider myself divine. After all, a god would not have made the many mistakes I have in my time. I'll visit your Shyr, one way or another I need to get out more and this seems like a worthy enough reason. I'll try not and disappoint your Talmyr. And who knows, perhaps I can find what I seek..." His gaze then returns to the floor, and the depression seeps back into his tone, "Though I doubt it even exists... But enough of that for now, care to tell me where this Shyr is?"
The Warrior Dragon grunts, and his voice seems to be lined with amusement. "Hah! That is good, any who disregard combat are fools doomed to failure. And I would gladly face death, if it did not flee in terror at my presence!" The other energy dragon rolls his eyes, but doesn't comment.

The paladin smiles, satisfied at the warrior Dragon's respond and bumps his armour, in the meanwhile Erixen looks at Xefr with an investigative look "I do not know what you seek Xefr, but I wish you may find it  ...in Shyr, it is a place of miracles after all!" he then turns looking at the open hangar "Well, if it is decided, we will return to our ship and transfer you Shyr's location, then we will travel together  ..to avoid any misunderstandings with the Imperial authorities." Erixen and Myntorel bow to the black dragon and enter the fighter to return to the Ghashyr frigate  ...the Captain orders the Cartographer officer "Transfer a trip plan for Shyr and any necessary information to the Dragon's ship."

Watching the fighter leave, the second energy dragon spoke to the others. "I shall get the ship moving. We shall leave for Shyr in a few minutes." With that, he left in another flash, leaving Xefr and the Warrior in the hanger. Turning to Xefr, the shard spoke for himself, using his voice rather than telepathy, "So, do you really think we'll figure it out? ". With a sigh, an answer was given, "Not at all, Guardian. That time is not now. But our answer is out there, it will merely show itself when the time is right. For now, we shall wait until the Technology shard gets this vessel moving. For now, we are having another adventure..." The two then disappeared from the hanger, allowing it to return to its silence.

From the bridge, the Technology Shard appeared before the Blood Moon soldiers acting as the Soul's Eclipse's crew. As the information came through, it was translated into their own language. It only took one order, "Set course for Shyr! We leave immediately!" The crew went into action, and the entire vessel threw off its facade of lifelessness. The entire ship lit up, as systems came online, including the engines. Soul's Eclipse flew a distance away from the vortex, and once out of Dentibus Hydri's gravitational pull, it entered Warp Speed.

Once the captain arrived at the frigate he gave orders to set course for Shyr, he then dressed in finery and opened a hologram channel to Gal. An old Ghashyr lord with a crown adorned with crescents appeared, slightly interested to view the explorer so early "What is it that you wish Captain Erixen?"
The Captain kneeled and rised his head to look at the old lord "Glad to see you Lord Ogradax! I've made the discovery of the millenium, my Lord!"
Ogradax leaned towards the hologram of Captain Erixen "And what is that my good captain? Could it benefit House Galgatyen?"
Erixen rises and full of pride exclaims.. "Dragons my lord! Living. Fire-Breathing. Dragons!  ...I'm bringing a specimen called Xefr to Shyr as a guest, to enact negotiations."
The old moon-king gets up, his eyes and look make clear that he didn't expect that discovery  ..he clears his throat "Dragons? That is indeed a great discovery Captain   ...if you say the truth this could have tremendous implications for our faiths, but I'm sure Talmyr Myrsa as a Draconian would show great satisfaction at these news   ...if you're just hallucinating though, you'll end your days in Marga!"
Erixen places his hand upon his chest "I swear to Azgor Tal and all that are enlightened! Dragons live. You shall see with your own eyes my lord."
Ogradax sits back in his throne "Very well, I'll inform the Imperial authorities of your coming to Shyr   ..the Talmyr is currently unavailable, but I'm sure my son would handle the situation as it should be handled  ..you shall be greatly rewarded for your service Captain!" The hologram ends and Captain Erixen satisfied and sure of himself orders the ship to engage Warp seven, course: Shyr.
..
....
At a later time...
The two ships arrive in the Taurghan system, there await them around forty Azgorlanor Dreadnaughts, an admiral opens a hailing frequency towards Xefr and Erixen, in the meanwhile her crew scans the lifeforms within the alien vessel "I am Grand Admiral Rymera of House Tamorlyn, I WelcoOH MY TAL! It is true!  ...ehem, Welcome Captain Erixen and welcome Lord Xefr, I must ask you to follow me towards the Stardrome. Are there any requests visitors?"
